LinkedIn Profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/murphysarah
I studied at the University of Limerick, Ireland, where I attained an Honours Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering. A discipline which is dually infused with electronic engineering and computer science subjects.
I have been involved in testing for the best part of ten years. My involvement has included:
- GUI testing
- batch tool testing
- investigating GUI automation tools
- creating a PERL-based automation infrastructure
- test planning
- test process improvement
- coaching & mentoring other testers
With each testing project, my focus is on streamlining defect detection which increasing our testing effectiveness by supporting developers in the creation of high quality software. In other words, I very much value defect prevention.
During my testing tenure i have witnessed how the profession of testing has matured. No longer is testing the ad-hoc process it once was where developers spent a couple of years of their career. It is now, or should be, a disciplined, intellectually demanding profession that is a necessity in the pursuit of high quality software. It is a profession that is respected and can have a large affect on the end customer experience.
It is a must to continuously enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness with the end goal not to just find bugs, but to work with developers in order to help create a software product that will delight customers.
Please do not hesitate to contact me. I am very much interested in hearing other tester's stories. What has worked for you and what has not... What you have learned and what you have taught... And much lively discussion!
